Embracing Challenges, Achieving Greatness: The Clarian Growth Journey
At St. Clare’s Girls’ School, we are dedicated to cultivating a positive learning environment where every girl is empowered to build academic confidence, embrace personal growth, and unlock her full potential. Launched as a cornerstone of our Whole Personal Development framework, the Clarian Growth Program equips students with the mindset and life skills needed to navigate their educational journeys with courage and self-belief. Guided by six core values—Effort, Adaptability, Persistence, Confidence, Resilience, and Self-Improvement—the program encourages our students to embrace challenges, view setbacks as valuable learning opportunities, and continually strive to become the best version of themselves.
Now in its third year, the Clarian Growth Program Kick-off Ceremony was held in the School Hall on 16 September 2026. Building on the inspirational momentum of previous years, this year’s program held special resonance for our community as we welcomed back one of our very own alumnae, Ms. Chan Ka Sin Edith, as our guest speaker.

Edith, a distinguished Hong Kong Athletics Team representative, has represented the city at major international competitions, including the Asian Games, the World University Games, and the Asian Athletics Championships. Holding a personal best of 6.19 meters in the long jump, she is a former Hong Kong Youth Record Holder in both the Women’s Long Jump and the 4×100m Relay. Alongside her athletic feats, she has achieved high academic standards, earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Taiwan, and serving as a university professor and athletics coach.

Sharing her journey as a Clarian sister, Edith spoke directly to the hearts of our students. She reflected on being one of the most senior members of the Hong Kong Track and Field Team, attributing her longevity in the sport to a steadfast refusal to give up on her dreams. She spoke candidly about the physical and mental toll of elite sports, detailing her recovery from severe injuries—including severe tears to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), meniscus, and Achilles tendon, as well as collarbone and talus fractures. Through each arduous rehabilitation process, her unwavering spirit shone bright:
"Never give up. If you don't try, you will never truly discover what you love. Even failure is simply an opportunity to understand where you can improve to come back stronger next time."

Edith introduced the students to the Growth and Regression Curve, illustrating how small, consistent efforts made each day compound into extraordinary results over time. She emphasized that systematic and continuous mental skill training is essential for overcoming adversity—a vital lesson for young women navigating academic and personal hurdles.
Her story resonated deeply with the student body. During the Q&A session, hands remained raised long after the scheduled time, with students eagerly asking insightful questions about resilience, goal-setting, and perseverance.

Following the assembly, students returned to their classrooms to reflect on their individual strengths and areas for growth. Utilizing the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, and Time-bound), each student set meaningful academic and personal growth goals in her specially designed Clarian Growth Logbook. This reflective exercise brought a purposeful end to the kick-off ceremony, launching our girls on a structured path of self-discovery, resilience, and success for the academic year ahead.
